Instructor: Prairie Owl Beads
Join Prairie Owl Beads for an interactive and engaging workshop as you work through the step-by-step process of making a modern pair of slipper moccassins.
This workshop provides a fun and welcoming environment, where stories are told, and laughter is shared, allowing you to connect with each other and leave with a deep sense of fulfillment and gratitude.
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned crafter, all are welcome!
In this class, you will learn single needle beadwork, how to design your beadwork pattern, how to trace your pattern, cutting and sewing liners and leather, cutting fur from a pelt, and how to align and assemble your lining, leather, and fur.
You will learn everything you need to make a complete pair of moccassins from start to finish, and have the skills needed to make more in the future, if you wish! (A friendly suggestion – some experience with sewing and/or beadwork is helpful to keep things on track. Participants are expected to attend all sessions to complete the project and a bit of homework is required to ensure everything is finished on time!)
All supplies are included in the registration fee. NOTE – This class will be using only one colour of leather and one type of fur, which are determined based on stock availability prior to the start of class.
About Prairie Owl Beads:
The four Desrochers sisters—Julie, Danielle, Gabrielle, and Roxane—are French Métis, raised in Saint-Boniface. With over a decade dedicated to honing their beadwork skills, they have deepened their connection to their Métis roots, culminating in the founding of Prairie Owl Beads in 2020. The sisters celebrate the cultural significance of beadwork as a vital form of storytelling and self-expression, honouring their heritage and ancestors. Through engaging workshops and demonstrations, they share their passion and expertise with the community, inspiring others to reconnect with their own roots. Prairie Owl Beads embodies their collective journey as artisans, seamlessly blending traditional techniques with a modern touch, while fostering a strong sense of community and cultural pride.
